Description

This monograph has been prepared by an interdisciplinary team consisting of the Polish and Ukrainian experts, who have large theoretical and practical experience in the scope of its subject matter. This monograph is the result of the activities undertaken within the frameworks of the project titled Improvement of energy management in typical public buildings of the city and Oblast Ivano-Frankivsk. The said project has been performed under Poland’s development assistance programme 2013, co-financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland. The project leader was the Drilling, Oil and Gas Faculty at AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow and the project partner was the Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas. The publication covers with its scope a number of fields, pointing out how wide and interdisciplinary issue is energy saving and the geo-energy sector. The first chapters present issues relating to increasing energy efficiency and running of energy management in public utility buildings. The methodology of calculating energy consumption in a heating season has been presented on the basis of the applicable European standards. The issues regarding preparation of an energy audit, as a document enabling the selection of an optimum option with regard to the works proposed in the audit, have been discussed in detail. The issues presented in the monograph cover also thermovision studies enabling making photos of a building from the outside, which show places of heat losses. Also, detailed principles of preparing energy performance certificates for buildings have been demonstrated. Since a certificate constitutes the synthesis of information about the building features affecting the level of energy consumption, an example of preparing such a certificate has been given for a model public utility building. Issues relating to the principles of designing passive buildings, which are characterised with very low demand for energy have been discussed as well.
The next chapter presents issues regarding the current energy situation in Ukraine. Chapter four is dedicated to the possibilities of utilising oil wells, which have either been removed or are designated for removal, for heating purposes. Those issues should be taken into consideration while referring to the provisions of the Ukrainian law.
That chapter includes the analysis of oil wells distribution in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast. Those wells used to be operated on the Carpathian deposits. An important issue is the location of boreholes, which may constitute heat sources for heating purposes, since they are located near buildings.
That chapter describes also the methods of determining the energy efficiency of borehole heat exchangers. The methodology of the thermal response test − TRT, has been discussed. That test is to specify the value of the effective thermal conductivity in a borehole. On that basis it is possible to make forecasts, which – with a higher number of deep borehole heat exchangers – are made by means of numerical simulations.
Also, the results of the analysis of the selected oil well in terms of its utilisation as a borehole exchanger have been provided. Borehole No. 470 was made in the Town of Pasiczna, on Nadvirna Deposit. The forecasts of borehole exchanger operation on the basis of that borehole have been provided, assuming two different structural solutions.
An important element of designing low-temperature heating installations is the adjustment of the heating systems in buildings, including the provision of heat collection at lower temperature. Those issues are essential already at the stage of installation design, and if they are neglected, in the future, it may result in difficulties with heat delivery and collection, and thus financial losses.
The last chapter, chapter five, regards the economic issues. It presents such topics and economic profitability of capital projects relating to low-temperature energy management. It presents the possibilities of acquiring financial support from different sources, including EU funds, World Bank or the American assistance for Ukraine. The authors of Chapter 3 and partially Chapter 4 (4.1, 4.2) are the scientists from the Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas. The remaining chapters have been written by Polish experts. The monograph ends with conclusions covering technological and economic issues.
